Lunch at Salty's + $3 Movie at the Kennedy School - NE

There are very few places in Portland that my parents can recall by name, but the Kennedy School is one of them. Start this day off right with giant plate of seafood on the river at Salty's, followed by a movie and beers at the Kennedy School. Here's your map.

Sure, Salty's is unhip, but it has that 1970's, on-the-river feel to it and offers a nice selection of seafood that your parents will appreciate. Their menu includes many local favorites such as Pacific Steelhead, Vancouver Island Clams, and Kodiak Island True Cod (for the fish & chips). Sunday brunch includes endless lobster, create-you-own crepes, and bottomless mimosas for $40.

You should plan a good hour for eating at Salty's as the restaurant can get quite crowded. Plan even more time if you are going for Sunday brunch. Did you remember to check your movie times? Here's McMenamins' daily showtimes

For those of you who are new to town, the Kennedy School is a converted elementary school that has hand-painted hallways, a hotel, restaurant, brewery, and movie theater. It's hard not to love this place.

The Kennedy School runs movies that have been in the theater for a while, which is why the tickets only cost $3/person. Be sure to give yourself a good half hour to wander around the building before the movie and even more if you want to stop in for a beer at the Boiler Room Bar (recommended).

The movie theater is cute and cozy with soft couch-like seats. You can bring your beer in with you!
